Luffy's Gears

Gear 2 / Gear Second

It's a technique that improves power and speed in combat by increasing blood pressure, by positioning the body as shown in the image, which is normally impossible for a normal human, as the body can't withstand that much blood pressure. But since Luffy's body is made of rubber, he can handle the pressure.

Luffy's Gears

Gear 3 / Gear Third

This technique greatly enhances Luffy's fighting power. To activate it, he bites down on his thumb and blows into it. The exhaled air spreads throughout his arm, allowing him to inflate his arm like a balloon, making it as big as a giant's arm. He can also use it with other parts of his body (notably his stomach or his foot). Once again, only Luffy can use this technique.

Luffy's Gears

Gear 4 / Gear Fourth

A recent technique unlocked by his training, it allows him to inflate, improve his offensive fluid (Weapon's Haki) and retract his arms, then release them. He thus improves his power even more than with the Gear 3. He normally triggers it by biting his wrist.

Luffy's Gears

Gear 4 / Gear Fourth : Bound Man

The first time he used it was against the great privateer Doflamingo. And the second time he used it, he managed to activate it by sheer force of will, whereas he usually bites his wrist, and while controlled by Doflamingo's Parasite.
